"Unsung Heroes"

Everyday people are often the unsung heroes of a community and much of their time and personal commitment goes unnoticed and can sometimes be underestimated. We want to change that! 

 

These people are valuable in every community, from large cities to small towns, and their actions can be big or small. But perhaps even more valuable are the unsung heroes in small rural communities, who become the backbone of a community by helping local residents, organizing events to liven up a town, or ensuring that small businesses remain supported.

 

We want to highlight our local heroes in Bearn des Gaves using the medium of photography, so that they see how valuable and appreciated they are for all they do in our communities.

To do this, we need you!  

Who will you nominate?

We'd like you to nominate someone who brings something special to their community, someone who you think deserves to be recognized for their efforts.

 

Don't forget that your nominee will also have to agree to have his or her photo taken and displayed in a public place in Salies de Béarn! So it's worth checking with them before submitting their name!

How will we do this?

By taking a black and white portrait of each person you nominate, and create a giant exhibition throughout the city of Salies de Béarn between June 15 and July 15, 2023.

We will also tell the stories of these people and how they change their community by their actions.

How can I nominate someone?

To nominate someone, please click on the link below and fill out the form. It's that easy! 

When should I nominate my person(s)?

Now! The link to the nomination form is now open and will close on Sunday, March 12 2023.

So, don't delay, nominate today! 

What happens after a nomination?

We will contact all nominees to confirm that they agree to participate, that they meet the eligibility criteria (see below) and to arrange a date for their portrait to be taken.

Where and when will the photos be taken?

The photos will be taken in March on the following dates:

 

Navarranx - Saturday, March 18 and Monday, March 20

Salies de Bearn - Saturday, March 25 and Monday, March 27

 

All nominees will receive a link to reserve a time slot for them.

Is there a minimum age?

No, but if they are under 18, we will need permission from parents or guardians and their presence at the photo shoot.

What are the criteria for a person to be nominated?

In order to ensure fair representation of all Béarn communities, we have established a list of criteria that the person you nominate must meet to be accepted into this project. 

 

Reside in Bearn for at least the last two years.

Give to your community in one of the following areas:

Volunteer

Firefighter

Health care workers 

Education 

Culture 

Health 

Agriculture 

Public sector 

Private sector 

Do we have to pay?

We ask for a voluntary contribution of 10-20 euros to help cover the costs of the project. This contribution is not mandatory, but will be gratefully received.
